VALENTINES DAY DO’S AND DON’TS

Valentine's day is right around the corner,  one of the year's most difficult day regardless of your sex . It don't matter if you're Team Valentine or Team "I don’t give a damn".

Given the unnecessary (if you ask me) pressure that accompanies this "special" day, people tend to do the most and  by the most i mean embarassing, life changing mistakes only to end the day with regrets and "I wish I didn't do that".
HEY! Don't Fret, thats why I'm here, to make sure you, my beautiful fireflies wake up to and end this year's Valentine's day with zero worries and zero regrets.
Shall we?

1. GET A SEXY LINGERIE

Now ladies hear me out, when I say buy a sexy lingerie, I'm not just speaking to girlfriends and wives so throw the “I'm single so why? Who am i going to wear them for?” excuse out the window. Lingerie stores usually give out discounts, especially during the weeks leading to Val’s day, they call it the "Valentine's day sales or Valentine's day special" Y'all should see the hot and sexy Savage Fenty Valentine collection ( that however 'gon cost you a lot even with a discount soo...). Make sure you grab that opportunity and treat yourself to a nice piece of clothing who knows you might just be needing them soon.

2. ENJOY THE DAY WITH YOUR BEST FRIENDS
Valentine's day is generally a day to celebrate love, so who made the rule that it has to be between lovers? Yo get your single friends and go have a great time. Listen, from someone who knows Girls night out especially, are always a blast, I mean fun is guaranteed. And for someone who loves amebo, well the best TEA-S are always served hot, spicy, juicy just the way i like it at a girls hangout. So get out there and have fun with your friends, its better than wallowing in self pity while romantic videos of couples keep flooding Social media.

3. DO NOT CONTANCT YOUR EX
This mistake is as vintage as my grandpa's Peugeot parked in front of his house. Dont do it, you know it'll only end in more heartache and honestly unnecessary drama. Resist that urge, I know it’s a day to celebrate love and everyone around you might be receiving gifts and spending the day with someone but don’t let that send you into the arms of someone you’ve moved on from and even if you get a call or a text from your ex...Listen IGNORE! Love yourself more...Choose YOU!

4. DON’T WEAR HEARTS OR RED
For the love of God avoid such tackiness, its embarrassing and out of Style. The Valentine's day themed clothing is so cliché and honestly annoying, don’t go around town looking like you’re cupid or something. The only red attire permitted are red lingerie, even that is cheesy.

5. DON’T BREAK UP WITH YOUR PARTNER ON THAT DAY
Can you not be that person? Choose kindness and empathy today. Don't ruin that day for someone else, breakups can happen whenever but please 14th of February should not be that day, wait a little, do it on the 15th   instead.
6. GET A THOUGHTFUL GIFT
Honestly, guys are tired of cliché boxers and ladies sure don’t want lingerie either, so when getting a gift think outside the box and get them something significant. I know roses symbolizes love but don't conclude...sometimes get your significant other their favorite flower, I prefer tulips to roses.

7. DON’T GET TOO HUNG UP ON THE DATE
Seriously don’t be the type of person who puts too much meaning into the date and ends up forgetting how good your relationship has been. Don’t stay upset if your partner's not interested in the valentine's day festivities, talk it out and find a compromise.

That's about it guys...
Make sure to remember the significance of this day regardless, it's about love more than it is about the boxes of chocolates, romantic date nights and the likes, its gratitude and appreciation to the ones we love and vice versa. While the extras make the day special, the existence of love in your life is to be appreciated. Dont let the pressure of one day ruin your forever.
Celebrate wisely.
Until next time
Stay safe Fireflies...

LOCKDOWN TRENDS OR LOCKDOWN THREATS

Who’s noticed the new trend?  everyone’s actually blaming it on the ‘lockdown order’. The multiple IG live videos but one stood out.  The new trend especially with male celebrities where they’d start up a live video, ask their viewers or fans to call in and twerk for them using milk and stuff like that (talk about some weird erotica urghh).  Some even went as far as asking the callers to masturbate (rather disturbing if you ask me, save that for Porn y’all) I mean are we all just going to keep quiet about this, it doesn’t make any sense. I believe it’s wrong and just another way of objectifying the ladies. What’s sick and disheartening about it all is the fact that in 2020 some ladies still succumb to this circus.  Don’t get me wrong I’m not being judgmental but like toolzo said you never know who’s watching, it just might come back in the future and bite them hard (Kevin Hart knows a thing or two about this) Worse? when t...

MARRIAGE AND STIGMAS

As a young girl growing up, my mom  and her friends  often made remarks like “When you grow up, you will marry a rich fine guy and give birth to beautiful children’’ Now don’t get me wrong, what they said wasn’t at all bad, infact it’s a nice thing to wish your child. Thing is when I turned 15, I began to find myself not wanting all of that. To me, it sounded so limiting and i hated the fact that people made it sound like that’s the sole purpose of our existence.  I didn’t and I still don’t understand society’s need to associate success to the number of  kids a person has and their marital status. Whenever I make comments like ”I don’t think getting married is something I’d love to do”. People are quick to blame my parents bitter divorce and failed marriage. They’re not entirely wrong but that’s not the whole story.  Truth is, I just don’t understand why a lot of people especially in our African societies see the idea of ...

DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY AMONG NIGERIAN YOUTHS

Hi guys let`s talk about something that has been killing people long before coronavirus. Over the past few years , the number of suicides among youths have been alarming and it’s quite sad that in this country mental health is not prioritized nor is it taken seriously. No proper education on this issue whatsoever.  We have heard of cases where depressed victims actually reach out to their friends, siblings or in some cases parents about how life is tiring, hard or unfair to them and they were never taken seriously. Depression and anxiety are among the most common mental health conditions experienced by young people around the world. Research findings suggest that the number of youths who experience this each year is on the rise Often times the symptoms are either not recognized or the signs are ignored, passed off as part of a ‘coming of age’ phase or dismissed as normal mood swings.  Hence, these young kids do not get any help or medical attenti...
