VALENTINES DAY DO’S AND DON’TS

Valentine's day is right around the corner,  one of the year's most difficult day regardless of your sex . It don't matter if you're Team Valentine or Team "I don’t give a damn".  Given the unnecessary (if you ask me) pressure that accompanies this "special" day, people tend to do the most and  by the most i mean embarassing, life changing mistakes only to end the day with regrets and "I wish I didn't do that". HEY! Don't Fret, thats why I'm here, to make sure you, my beautiful fireflies wake up to and end this year's Valentine's day with zero worries and zero regrets. Shall we?  1. GET A SEXY LINGERIE Now ladies hear me out, when I say buy a sexy lingerie, I'm not just speaking to girlfriends and wives so throw the “I'm single so why? Who am i going to wear them for?” excuse out the window. Lingerie stores usually give out discounts, especially during the weeks leading to Val’s day, they call i...

FEMINISM IN THE 21st CENTURY

What truly is feminism? Over the years the term feminism  has been used on different occasions , by women who use the term just so they can sound woke or in-vogue while others actually understand and reflect the true meaning of the word. Feminism is a social theory or political movement which argues that legal and social restrictions on women must be removed in order to bring about equality of the sexes in all aspects of public and private life . Now who is a True Feminist? A Feminist is an advocate of feminism , a person who believes in bringing about the equality of the sexes in all aspects of public and private life. In the world today where virtually everything is done for public appraisals via social media and the internet, I have noticed that issues easily become trends that people jump on or support because at the moment it’s deemed cool and ‘woke’ to and the moment it stops trending they forget about it and just like a bad dress it’s tossed away awaitin...

DIVORCE AND REMARRYING

Speaking from the Christian point of view, I was told that divorcees are to remain single until they transit to either heaven or hell or either one of the former spouses die. Quite perplexing if you ask me cause what then happens to a person who is divorced and the said ex has moved on and remarried? Is this person supposed to sit down and wait for their remarried ex to enjoy their marriage and die before they can live their life to the fullest, I mean come on we all know finding love is one of life’s greatest highs.  I mean is this really what God wants or what religion mandates?  I know someone who got divorced and refused to marry again. His ex, however, is happily married (according to her instagram). His response each time he is questioned is that it is against the belief of God to remarry after a divorce. And at 49, he has no child, no wife, is still adamant about his decision but occasionally complains of loneliness.  I know of a...

MARRIAGE AND STIGMAS

As a young girl growing up, my mom  and her friends  often made remarks like “When you grow up, you will marry a rich fine guy and give birth to beautiful children’’ Now don’t get me wrong, what they said wasn’t at all bad, infact it’s a nice thing to wish your child. Thing is when I turned 15, I began to find myself not wanting all of that. To me, it sounded so limiting and i hated the fact that people made it sound like that’s the sole purpose of our existence.  I didn’t and I still don’t understand society’s need to associate success to the number of  kids a person has and their marital status. Whenever I make comments like ”I don’t think getting married is something I’d love to do”. People are quick to blame my parents bitter divorce and failed marriage. They’re not entirely wrong but that’s not the whole story.  Truth is, I just don’t understand why a lot of people especially in our African societies see the idea of ...

DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY AMONG NIGERIAN YOUTHS

Hi guys let`s talk about something that has been killing people long before coronavirus. Over the past few years , the number of suicides among youths have been alarming and it’s quite sad that in this country mental health is not prioritized nor is it taken seriously. No proper education on this issue whatsoever.  We have heard of cases where depressed victims actually reach out to their friends, siblings or in some cases parents about how life is tiring, hard or unfair to them and they were never taken seriously. Depression and anxiety are among the most common mental health conditions experienced by young people around the world. Research findings suggest that the number of youths who experience this each year is on the rise Often times the symptoms are either not recognized or the signs are ignored, passed off as part of a ‘coming of age’ phase or dismissed as normal mood swings.  Hence, these young kids do not get any help or medical attenti...

COSMETIC SURGERY AND THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY

Over the years when we hear about cosmetic surgery our minds quickly wander to Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj and generally Hollywood.  And for my fellow Nigerian folks, Late Stella Obasanjo who died from complications during a beauty procedure. Her death came as a shock and as much as she was loved and appreciated, her love for  plastic surgery was met with disapproval and judgment by the Nigerian citizens which is why spike in plastic surgery procedures and gradual appreciation is rather shocking and surprising.  These days it is slowly becoming the new norm especially when the money starts rolling in for young successful women. The rate  at which Nigerian ladies are embracing plastic surgery has increased dramatically from the days of Stella Obasanjo and it’s on the  rise. Cosmetic surgery as some say is here to stay now I guess. When the then 27 year old Modupe Ozolua introduced her plastic surgery company to Nigerians in 2001 she claime...

LOCKDOWN TRENDS OR LOCKDOWN THREATS

Who’s noticed the new trend?  everyone’s actually blaming it on the ‘lockdown order’. The multiple IG live videos but one stood out.  The new trend especially with male celebrities where they’d start up a live video, ask their viewers or fans to call in and twerk for them using milk and stuff like that (talk about some weird erotica urghh).  Some even went as far as asking the callers to masturbate (rather disturbing if you ask me, save that for Porn y’all) I mean are we all just going to keep quiet about this, it doesn’t make any sense. I believe it’s wrong and just another way of objectifying the ladies. What’s sick and disheartening about it all is the fact that in 2020 some ladies still succumb to this circus.  Don’t get me wrong I’m not being judgmental but like toolzo said you never know who’s watching, it just might come back in the future and bite them hard (Kevin Hart knows a thing or two about this) Worse? when t...
